If you feel that St Cuthbert’s is the Christian family to which you belong, we would ask that you consider pledging yourself to God’s mission through us in three ways – to pray, to serve, and to give.
Financial giving springs from a recognition that everything that we have, including our money, comes from the generosity and abundance of God himself. In this sense, our giving is really only a giving back to God of what already belongs to him, as King David in preparing for the building of the Temple understood:
“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.”
(1 Chronicles 29:14)
Some people at St Cuthbert’s seek to give 5% of their income, some 10%, others more. We believe it is for the individual, couple, or family, before God, to discern how much they should be giving at this time. We would encourage this to be reviewed at least once a year – to go up, down or stay the same, as God leads – and we seek to do this corporately around our Cuthbert’s Sunday celebration each year (on the Sunday nearest to 20 March).
The Message version of 2 Corinthians 9:7 puts it well, ‘I want each of you to take plenty of time to think it over, and make up your own mind what you will give. That will protect you against sob stories and arm-twisting. God loves it when the giver delights in the giving’.
The best way you can give to us is through the Parish Giving Scheme – as this is free for us to administer, is easy to use, and reclaims the Gift Aid on our behalf. However, you may wish to give immediately online. Both options are below.
